Grief, Bereavement and Loss Counselling in Bingley

When you lose somebody it can leave you needing support to make sense of what has happened and how to move forward.  You might be wondering if you are doing grief right or might not know who to turn to as you don't want to make things worse for other people.

What does Grief feel like?

Grief can feel like a really lonely place, even if you are in a room full of people.  Your experience of grief is individual to you, because you're relationship with the person who has died was individual.  This can feel confusing and at times dizzying.  Sometimes we look to other peoples actions and responses to ground our own but with grief this can cause more difficulties than answers.

With loss, we often lose a sense of ourselves.  It doesn't matter if the relationship we had with the person who has died was good or bad, the impact on them not being here anymore is real and can be confronting.  This is really normal; how you feel and what you are experiencing is ok.

What is Grief Counselling?

Grief counselling offers a space for you to just be you without the worries of burdening the people around you. It is a space to talk, to be silent, to laugh, to cry, to be angry, happy or sad.  It is a space to be just you.

Coping with Life and Bereavement

Coping with grief can be tricky.  We often still have lives to lead, jobs, hobbies or responsibilities to keep up.  It can affect our relationships, work, sleep and everyday life.  You may find that you are putting your need to grieve in a box so you can fulfil the needs of the people around you.  We can make the space together to gently open that box and with kindness explore the pain that is held in it.

Complicated and Difficult Grief

Complicated and difficult grief can occur for many different reasons.  You may have had specific ways of grieving role modelled to you which you feel you have to carry out; you may have had complicated relationships with the person that died or it may bring up things from the past that you thought you had dealt with.  Together we can work through these complexities to relieve the burden of carrying them.

What if I don't feel at all or have shutdown?

Sometimes we shutdown to protect ourselves, this is a normal and healthy reaction to pain or big feelings that feel overwhelming.  Grief can hit us months or years after the actual loss we experienced.

Miscarriage and Baby Loss

Grief doesn't only hit us from long standing relationships.  Miscarriage and baby loss is something that many families have faced and is still something that in our communities we struggle to openly talk about.  People often want you to 'feel better', 'move on' or 'try again'.  I am here to talk about the babies, the impact on your family and the loss that you live with.

The death of a Pet

Pet loss is another area that is commonly misunderstood, especially by those who have not experienced the relationship and love an animal can give to us.  I have seen the devastation of this loss in my counselling work and have experienced it myself.

Grief counselling in Bingley and surrounding villages

I have worked with clients struggling with grief and loss for many years, in fact my first experiences of counselling both personally and professionally were in this area.  My placement whilst training was with Bradford bereavement Support where I worked with clients and their individual experiences and loss and the impact of grief on their lives after the death of someone close to them.  I carried on working with Bradford Bereavement Support until they closed in December 2025 and have continued to work with complex grief clients at The Cellar Trust and at Laura Cooper Counselling.  It is an area of work I am passionate about.

I offer face-to-face grief and bereavement counselling from my counselling room in Bingley, supporting adults from Bingley, Eldwick, Gilstead, Crossflatts and the surrounding area.

If you're looking for a grief counsellor close to home, you don't need to travel into Bradford or Leeds. We can meet in a private, welcoming space in Bingley, or you can choose online or telephone sessions if that feels easier.
